PREVIEW Droylsden v Glossop North End
Tuesday 5th March 2019 @ 15:28 by Mark Phillip

If you’re after a slice of football tonight, then look no further than the Butchers Arms as Droylsden host Glossop North End in the Evo-Stik West.

Following the abandonment of the original tie in January, Droylsden have confirmed that tonight’s game will be FREE for everyone.

Although it looks as if the Bloods are heading for a mid-table finish this season, the same can’t be said for Glossop, who are currently fighting the spectre of relegation.

Peter Band and Lloyd Morrison’s side are currently four points above the relegation zone and enter the game on the back of a crucial 3-0 victory over bottom club Skelmersdale United last weekend.

The Hillmen looked destined for the drop not too long ago, but recent results, which include a 3-1 victory at second bottom Kendal Town at the end of February, have reignited hopes of a great escape.

While Glossop will be fully focused on their encounter this evening, the supporters – and possibly the management team – will have one eye on the basement battle between Skelmersdale and Kendal. Realistically, Skeit would take a minor miracle for Skelmersdale to avoid the drop this season. They are marooned at the foot of the table on nine points, which leaves them 14 points from safety. Meanwhile, despite the murmurs of discontent behind the scenes in Cumbria – in which fans have recently protested against the chairman – Kendal have a decent chance to avoid the drop. But in order to do so, they will need to pick up a result in Merseyside tonight. A defeat, coupled with a Glossop victory, would increase the gap between the sides to seven points.

Glossop will, however, be coming up against a Droylsden side free of expectation and pressure. The Bloods are currently 14th in the table and 15 points above the drop zone, and they arguably have one of the league’s most dangerous strikers in Sefton Gonzales, previously of Stockport County, who has notched 14 times this season.

Tonight’s game is scheduled to kick off at 7.45pm.
