Weekend Review Ashton Rugby Club
Tuesday 19th February 2019 @ 10:50 by Mark Phillip

Ashton avenged a heavy away defeat earlier in the season.

Both Josh Pattison and Matt Baron got their hands on a loose ball for Ashton’s first try, Pattison got the first of his five conversions, which included one effort that was aimed wide of the posts and blown back in by the wind.

Jordan Marshall then got two similar tries bursting through the defence to gallop 50m to touch down. Billy Travis had his turn at bagging a couple before half-time.

Using the wind Ashton were 35-0 up at half-time.

The first 20 minutes of the second half were scoreless until Alex Meredith touched down in the corner. The home team completed the scoreline with a Richard Taylor try converted by Ryan Riedsma.

A rearranged Lancashire Cup game was close until half-time, as the teams traded tries.

Ashton then grabbed tries from Tom Ainsworth (4), Matt Lee, Matt Cope, and Zak and James Ashley. Ashton finished third in the league.

l Ashton U12s played two Lancashire Festival games losing 4-0 and 6-0 v Trafford MV and Heaton Moor.

l Ashton Colts’ top-of-the-table clash with Tarleton was abandoned after 15 minutes. Isaac Kellett suffered a leg injury. Ashton would like to thank Tameside Ambulance Service for their speedy response. Isaac is now recovering at home. As a result of the abandonment, Ashton cling to top spot by goal difference.
