Two teenage lads have been left in hospital with serious injuries following a hit and run in Denton yesterday afternoon.

The teenagers – aged 13 and 17 – both suffered serious leg injuries after being struck by a car believed to have been stolen.

The incident happened just before 2pm on Saturday as the two walked along Windmill Lane.

They were hit by a Volkswagen Sharan car, but the driver fled from the scene in the vehicle which was later found abandoned in Haughton Green, Denton, earlier this evening.

Windmill Lane was partially closed between Danebank Mews and Denton Hall Farm Road yesterday while police carried out their enquiries, but it has since reopened.

Officers are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Inspector Andrew Sandiford, of GMP’s Tameside district, said: “Two teenage boys have been left with significant leg injuries in this horrendous incident.

“I know this news may be alarming but we believe this is an isolated incident and not linked to the horrendous events on Friday in which a man was struck by his own stolen car in Ashton.

“We are following several lines of enquiry to trace those responsible and we are now appealing for the public’s help.

“If you saw what happened or if you have information about the blue VW Sharan, or who was driving it, please call us on 0161 856 9256.”

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 9256 or 101, quoting reference number 1255 of 16/02/2019, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
