National League North

Ashton United 0-0 Hereford

On an emotional day at Hurst Cross, the points were shared in the relegation battle with neither side able to break the deadlock.

The Robins welcomed Oliver Crowley and Matt Regan back into their defence. The action opened with George Lloyd lobbing comfortably wide after getting the better of Javid Swaby-Neavin.

Luke Ashworth then flicked on Swaby-Neavin’s long throw-in with the ball just reaching keeper Matt Yates. Tom Owen-Evans then tricked his way past Liam Goulding in the area with Ashworth clearing his cross.

Mike Symons’ poked effort from a left wing corner was blocked and Tommy O’Sullivan then fired a second corner straight at George McMahon.

Eliot Richards headed on to the stantion behind the goal after a foul throw by Ashton and Owen-Evans’ long free kick was palmed away by McMahon.

The Bulls came close when Lloyd beat Swaby-Neavin out wide and saw his cross headed over six yards out by Owen-Evans.

They threatened the Ashton goal again with Josh Growling’s shot being blocked amidst claims for handball.

Ashton’s best chance came just before the break as Sam Sheridan’s cross was flicked past Yates by Liam Martin, only to be cleared off the line with Martin firing the loose ball over.

The second period descended into something of an attritional battle.

Owen-Evans had a chance, bursting through the middle with McMahon spreading himself to effect a decent stop.

Sub James Roberts hammered a swinging effort just past the far post. With time running out, Roberts turned past two defenders and saw his shot squirm away from McMahon.
