Just before 7.20am today, police were called to a collision on Nook Lane, where they found a 63-year-old man with serious head injuries.

The victim had seen his car – a red Citroen C1, registration MV18 OSB – being driven away on Rushmere. He tried to run after it but the thieves ran him over and drove off.

The man has been taken to hospital. Nook Lane is currently closed at the junction with Hampson Place while police investiagte and St Christopher’s Road is also closed.

Officers have since located what they believe to be the stolen red Citroen C1 involved in this incident on Parry Walk, off Diamond Street in Ashton-under-Lyne.
