Stalybridge South Councillor Clive Patrick is asking residents where they would like to see funds donated to the town to be spent.

It comes after a substantial sum of money was bequeathed to Stalybridge courtesy of Mabel Wilson.

Stewardship of the funds was given to Cllr Patrick who has spent the last 12 months donating sums to a variety of good causes.

He explained: “Last year, under my stewardship, the Mabel Fund helped people of all ages and from very many different backgrounds.

“But this year I have decided that I would like to give residents some say in how this fund is spent.

“Therefore I am announcing today that if you are a member of an organised group, or even a group of friends, in Stalybridge South who have a special project or would like to buy a piece of equipment, now is the chance to contact me for some of this cash.”

He continued: “I am asking for email applications from such groups who have not quite got enough money to buy these little extras.

“There is not a lot of money left from last year’s fund, therefore I am inviting applications for up to £250.

“Therefore if you know a Scout or Guide troop who need money to repair or to buy a new tent, or a group of bird watchers who need a new laptop to organise meetings, then now is the time to contact me.

“Winning applications will be chosen by Mabel’s Family in the week beginning Monday, February 18, so get your thinking caps on and contact me.”

“I am very proud of what the Mabel Fund achieved last year and am grateful to the help of Joanne Walker.

“This new idea will be a good way to pass on the money to a new group of people,” he said.
