Chasetown 1-0 Droylsden

A first half strike from Will Whieldon decided this game in what was a poor performance from Droylsden and gave Chasetown their first home league win of the season.

On the quarter hour mark Flint’s cross from the left found Hill who laid the ball off to Whieldon whose strike ended in the top corner of Thompson’s net.

The shot was one of the few attempts that troubled either keeper on a cold afternoon in the Midlands.

Shaun Holden’s attempt after five minutes for the Bloods flew over the bar while on the half hour mark, a good run from Luke Daly from the right forced Pond into a save low down at his near post.

In between, Vaan’s free header from a Flint corner sailed over the bar for the home team.

Second half substitutions from Droylsden boss Dave Pace saw Phil Marsh and Ollie Ford replace Shaun Holden and Luke Daly, but they failed to shake up what was a lethargic performance from the Bloods.

What few chances they created were poorly finished, the best falling to Liam Caddick who failed to keep the ball down from inside the area but Chasetown defended well through the second half successfully stifling the Bloods’ game and keeping the strikers quiet.
