Two of Ashton’s local heroes has been rewarded by the Arcades Shopping Centre for her service to the community.

Before Christmas the centre asked shoppers to name someone who goes above and beyond for the community and give them a chance of winning £100.

The first winner was Marcella Curran who nominated Pauline Town. Pauline is well known throughout the Tameside Community for her charity work for homeless people, as well as having a selfless heart when it comes to caring for others.

The second winner was Lisa Brown, who was nominated  her sister Lindsay Humphreys for her bravery and courage throughout her life. Lisa’s choice of £100 donation also went to Tameside Oldham and Glossop Mind.

Lynne Picken, Arcade Shopping Centre’s Centre Manager, commented: “The Gift of Giving competition saw numerous heart-filled entries which were very humbling to read. We would like to congratulate our winners and are delighted we could donate funds to such a commendable cause.”
