A Dukinfield boy has become a social media sensation after starring in a Christmas commercial.

6-year-old Logan Ross from Dukinfield is the star of this year’s Virgin Mobile Christmas advert. Logan has melted hearts across the world as the ad has been viewed more than half a million times across Facebook and YouTube, with hundreds of people leaving comments asking for more!

The advert sees Logan visiting Father Christmas in his grotto, before the big man has to rush off to an emergency at the North Pole, leaving little Logan in charge.

Speaking about how the opportunity came about, Logan’s mum Danielle, said: “Logan is with the ‘Drama Mob’ agency. They are a Manchester-based company and they sent us a self-tape request. All he had to do was be videoed. He didn’t know he was being filmed. He had to answer a few questions about Father Christmas, like ‘How do you think he gets down the chimney?’ As he was doing it he was doing the actions.

They sent that off and about a week later we found out they liked him. The director spoke to us to see if we thought Logan could do the advert. I thought it was perfect for Logan because he doesn’t look into anything, he just takes it in his stride.”

Logan was left in charge of Santa’s grotto, with hilarious and heartwarming consequences.

Logan and his parents went down to the Royal Victoria Place shopping centre in Tunbridge Wells to film the advert.

While in charge of the grotto, Logan received a series of phone calls from characters such as Mrs Claus, the Chief Elf and even Sir Richard Branson, who asked him to carry out a series of tasks. He wasn’t aware he was being filmed so all of his hilarious reactions are completely genuine, something which has resonated with viewers.

“The response has been crazy; social media more so,” Danielle said. “People have been going that mad about him, the producer got in touch with us today to ask our permission for them to extend the footage. People are asking to see what happened; did he pass on the messages? Did he get a present in the end for all his hard work? People got right into it. I was so surprised!”

While the Virgin Mobile advert is Logan’s first TV appearance, it won’t be his last! He was almost cast in Coronation Street to play Gary Windass’ son, eventually coming third out of 75 children. Logan was also filmed as part of the popular Sainsbury’s Christmas advert, but didn’t make the final edit.

His next appearance will be on CBeebies next September.

Logan’s TV appearance has fulfilled an early ambition of his, and his parents couldn’t be prouder. Dad Phil said: “Any kid can want to play football or go swimming and things like that in life but he’s always said he wants to be on TV. He’s actually done something which has put him on there, which to us is an achievement. It’s a proud moment to think he’s done something he wanted to achieve in life.

“It’s all played a part in his Christmas too. That’s what you do isn’t it, take your child to a Grotto? He just thinks that’s what he’s done. He just thinks he helped Father Christmas.”

Logan might not be quite aware about the stir he’s caused on social media, but he’s certainly been popular with his Year 2 classmates at Ravensfield Primary School.

“My friends say that I’m famous,” he said. Recalling his trip to Santa’s grotto, Logan added: “Do you know what happened? Santa got me a present and it was Crate Creatures because I love Crate Creatures!

“I looked after the grotto and the naughty elf was naughty because she looked in the naughty list. I said, ‘That wasn’t good!’

“I answered the phone when it rang and there was all sorts like Mrs Claus and Mr Richard and the Chief Elf!”

After Logan proved so popular, Virgin Mobile are set to release more footage of his grotto experience on their Facebook page- www.facebook.com/virginmedia/videos/362973370933427. You can also view the advert on the Virgin Media YouTube channel.
