Tameside Netball Club’s Premier 1 squad returned to winning ways at the weekend.

Following defeat to local rivals Oldham two weeks earlier, Tameside bounced back and claimed a 59-44 victory over Academy, based in Middlesex, at Manchester Metropolitan University on Sunday.

Brogan Slicker was named Player of the Match for her efforts on court.

Tameside, who are currently seventh in the table, have a golden opportunity to claim back-to-back victories with a trip to league strugglers Premier Romans on Sunday.

Following the result, head coach Paul Harper tweeted: “Proud of these girls today. Tough game, strong performance, stuck to task. #Winning #Learning”.

The club have so far endured mixed fortunes this season, winning three and losing four. They began their campaign on Sunday, September 23, with a narrow defeat at Turnford, before claiming a 59-36 victory over Leeds Athletic a week later. Defeats to New Cambell and Grangetown followed, but Tameside rediscovered their winning formula at the start of November with a victory over Viper 10 Blades.

Tameside’s inconsistency continued in their previous two results, losing to Oldham before beating Academy.

With four months of the season remaining, there is plenty of time to turn things around and make a charge up the table. And with a string of notable players in the ranks, including England’s Ella Standring and Millie Sanders, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see Tameside make an impact in the next few months.
