Within Albion 1-3 Stalybridge Celtic

Stalybridge Celtic responded from falling behind in the early stages to record a 3-1 victory at Witton Albion.

James Foley put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot in the fifth minute, but a Matt Wolfenden double in the 24th and 42nd minute gave Celtic a 2-1 lead before the half-time break.

And Simon Haworth’s men wrapped the game up in the 56th minute when Liam Tongue struck to make the final score 3-1.

Celtic have enjoyed a fairly comfortable season so far, but they were dealt a blow in the early stages on Tuesday night. Goalkeeper Paddy Wharton brought down Rob Hopley inside the box, leaving the referee with no alternative but to award a penalty, which Foley converted despite Wharton diving the right way.

Haworth’s side fought back and levelled matters in the 24th minute. Wolfenden converting Scorr Bakkor’s cross at the far post. And the midfielder was in the thick of it on the stroke of half-time, giving his side the lead after capitalising on Chris Sharp’s cross and heading home at the back post.

The game was effectively put to bed ten minutes into the second-half. Tongue hit a wonderful free-kick from 20 yards out which left Greg Hall helpless.

Celtic will be hoping to take the victory into Saturday’s FA Trophy clash against Buxton at Bower Fold. The game will mark the second time that the two sides have met in the space of seven days. The winner of the tie will receive a prize fund of £4,000.
