18-year-old arrested in connection with Ashton rape

An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a rape in Ashton on Tuesday.

The incident happened last night (6 November) where Police were called to a wooded area just off Cavendish Street to reports that a 17-year-0ld girl had been raped.

An investigation was launched and police had today made an arrest in connection with the attack.

The 18-year-old man remains in custody for questioning while the victim continues to receive support from specialist officers.

Detective Sergeant Joe Harrop, of GMP’s Tameside Borough, said: “We have been carrying out numerous lines of enquiry since the initial report was made last night and we now have an 18-year-old in custody arrested on suspicion of rape.

“I want to stress that our investigation remains in the early stages and continue to urge anybody with information to contact police.”
