Tameside referees make their mark in the Football League and Premier League

Greswell Primary School teacher Matt Donohue has so far enjoyed his first season officiating Football League matches.

Originally from Essex, Matt has taken charge of seven matches in League Two, with the latest of those between Macclesfield Town and Notts County last weekend. Macclesfield lost the game 1-0, which summoned the end of Mark Yates’ time in charge of the Silkmen. Matt has also been tasked with a League One fixture between Rochdale and Bristol Rovers on Tuesday, October 2.

Matt has issued 28 yellow cards and one red, awarding 163 fouls in the process.

Meanwhile, Ashton referee Chris Kavanagh has officiated five matches this season. He took charge of Burnley’s 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town in the Premier League on Saturday. He has so far dished out 11 yellow cards but no reds.
