Council’s new neighbourhood forums start tonight, replacing town councils

The first round of Tameside Council’s new strategic neighbourhood forums start this week.

There are four neighbourhood forums – north, south, east and west – and they have been designed to correspond with the corresponding health and police bodies. They’ve replaced the short-lived town councils.

North covers Ashton; South is Hyde and Longdendale; East covers Dukinfield, Mossley and Stalybridge; and West is Audenshaw, Denton and Droylsden.

Neighbourhood forums are for strategic matters such as the Greater Manchester mayor’s consultation on improving air quality by increasing the number of people who choose to walk or cycle rather than drive.

Members of the public are welcome to attend, and to contribute to discussions, but neighbourhood forums are not the place to raise community issues such as lamp-posts or pot-holes. These should be discussed with ward councillors at their surgeries.

All four forum meetings take place this week:

South – Monday, 15 October, 6.30pm in the Newton Suite at Hyde Town Hall.

North – Tuesday, 16 October, 6.30pm at Age UK, 131 Katherine Street, Ashton.

East – Wednesday, 17 October, 6.30pm at Stalybridge Civic Hall, Trinity Street.

West – Thursday, 18 October, 6.30pm at Denton Town Hall.
