A 13 year-old boy has been arrested after two suspected arson attacks in Droylsden this morning.

Emergency services were called to Poundland and Wilko on Greenside Lane at around just after ten past nine after the suspect allegedly started a blaze with a lit barbecue firelighter. Staff were able put it out before firefighters arrived.

A second fire was then believed to have started outside the Wilko shop next door.

Damaged and burned items of stock were heaped on the pavement outside both stores.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police have attended, identified and arrested a 13-year-old male in connection with the arson.

GMP Tameside North said: “He is currently in custody waiting to be interviewed.”

Wilko has been closed temporarily following the incident.

A spokesperson said: “Thankfully, all team members and customers were able to safely leave the store and we’re working with the local authorities to reopen as soon as possible.”

We are awaiting comment from the fire-service.
