Tomorrow is Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

Scores of businesses, schools, groups and organisations will be doing their bit to help raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care.

Among them will be XYLE in Hyde who invite everyone to call in between 9.30am and 1.30pm to enjoy locally blended coffees as well as their handcrafted, artisan cakes to raise funds for the cause.

Tameside Radio will be reporting live from the Manchester Road Retail Park venue throughout the fundraiser with the Civic Mayor of Tameside, Cllr Denise Ward,  supporting the event from 12 noon to 1pm.

Justine Power-Rawson, XYLE’s Retail Brand Executive, said: “All proceeds from any coffees and specially baked artisan/Macmillan cakes, sold during this event will be donated to this very worthy cause.

“In addition to the coffee morning, XYLE will also be holding a tombola and the team will be attempting to cycle 60 miles in the coffee shop.

“We’ll also be running a super hamper raffle and spin the wheel competition.”

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is a national fundraiser held by the charity every year on Friday, September 28, and is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer.

The charity asks people all over the UK to host their own Coffee Mornings and donations on the day are made to Macmillan. Last year alone the charity raised more than £27 million and together we can make this another successful year.

The first ever Coffee Morning happened way back in 1990.

It was a rather small affair with a simple idea: guests would gather over coffee and donate the cost of their cuppa to Macmillan in the process. It was so effective, Macmillan did it again the next year – only this time nationally.

Since then, Macmillan’s Coffee Morning has raised more than £200 million for the charity.

So do your bit and call in for coffee at XYLE in Hyde tomorrow morning from 9.30am – and join Tameside Radio 103.6FM live on air from 11am for the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.
