Cheshire County League 1st XI First Division

Hyde 182-9 Urmston 183-3

Missing several key players Hyde were comprehensively beaten by mid-table Urmston on Saturday.

Batting first Hyde made a good start with George Balderson (48) and Tom Partridge (40) looking comfortable as the league leaders aimed to wrack up another victory.

However James Espley proved a thorn in their side taking 5 for 47 of his 15 overs and in the process removing the dangerous James Duffy and Danny Berry.

Only Elliot Young and Danny Cranmer got into the 20s thereafter as Hyde closed their innings on 182 from their 50 overs.

In reply Hyde struck early with Balderson removing Cole Turner without scoring and when Jason Whittaker struck in quick succession the outcome was hanging in the balance, with visitors three wickets down and still moving needing more than 120 runs for victory.

That was until Furkan Hassan and Chris Turner came together, batting beautifully as the visitors chase down the modest Hyde total.

Such was the Urmston dominance that they reached their target with more than seven overs to spare and inflicted a rare defeat for Danny Berry’s men.

This weekend sees the Werneth Low men travel to Macclesfield as they look to move closer to the title.
