North West Counties First Division North:

Avro 3-2 Longridge Town

Avro claimed their second victory of the season thanks to a 94th minute winner from assistant boss Lee O’Brien.

The hosts took the lead on two occasions through Mike Norton and Michael Stockdale, but were pegged back on each occasion by James Sloan and Richard Allen.

However, as the game was entering it’s dying seconds, substitute O’Brien fired home a free-kick to give his side a deserved win.

The result left Avro in fifth spot ahead of Wednesday’s trip to mid-table Darwen.

Following a 1-0 defeat to Steeton just three days earlier, Avro entered the game with a point to prove and started the game with intent and purpose.

Their efforts to create an opening were rewarded inside seven minutes when former FC United striker, Mike Norton, poked home from close range to put the hosts ahead.

The lead lasted just 13 minutes, however, as James Sloan drew his side level after taking advantage of some poor defending.

Avro lost two league fixtures last season and so it wasn’t surprising when they battled back and reasserted their lead on the half hour mark through Stockdale’s looping header.

The visitors pushed for an equaliser in the opening stages of the second-half and their efforts were rewarded in the 69th minute through former Salford City striker Richie Allen.

As the game was entering it’s dying seconds, it looked as if Allen’s goal would give his side a share of the points. However, just minutes after replacing Norton, O’Brien stepped up and fired home a free-kick to send his side delirious.
