A young man has died after getting into difficulty whilst swimming in Audenshaw reservoir.

Emergency services were called to the body of water on Thursday (28 June) afternoon at around 3pm.

The man was rescued after being under the surface for a prolonged period of time and treated by paramedics at the scene but was sadly late confirmed dead.

Posting on Facebook, Greater Manchester Police Tameside South appealed to people to be sensible during the hot weather, writing: “This is not an area where swimming is permitted given the potential risks to human life as was seen yesterday in such tragic circumstances.

“Whilst the hot weather is with us please be aware of potential dangers around swimming / being near deep water lakes.”

It comes in the same month that an 18-year-old died whilst in the water at Debdale Park.
