Police are investigating after thieves ransacked a Post Office in Denton over the weekend and used a fire extinguisher to mask their escape.

At around 3.10am on Saturday 7 July 2018, officers were called to reports of an aggravated burglary at the Post Office in Londis on Haughton Green Road.

Two men forced entry and stole the contents of the cash machine.

They used a fire extinguisher as a smoke distraction to hide their escape from CCTV, and left in a light grey Mazda RX8 car towards Denton.

PC Christopher Oldham from GMP Tameside borough said: “I appreciate that this incident happened in the middle of the night, but I am appealing to any witnesses who may know something that can assist our enquiries.

“The offenders stole a significant amount of money, as well as causing substantial damage to the Post Office itself and we are doing everything we can to find the thieves.

“I would urge members of the public with any information to get in touch with police so we can find the people responsible.”

Anyone with information should call the police on 0161 856 9262 quoting reference number 389 of 07/07/18, or alternatively the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
