Ashton’s swimmers made a splash at two swimming meets last weekend.  On Saturday a four strong team tried their hand at the Manchester Non-National Meeting held at the Aquatics Centre in Manchester, whilst on Sunday six swimmers pitched up in Southport to do business at the End Of Season Sprint Finale.

On Saturday James Finn showed just how much he has improved by registering three personal best swims, his 50m Freestyle being the pick of the bunch. He managed an improvement of over four seconds as well as finishing the 100m butterfly for the first time.  Callum Shaw managed one personal best, as did Kian Tevlin, who narrowly missed out on a medal by finishing a frustrating fourth not once, but twice.  The medals were won by Harry Trelfa who managed to bag three.  He impressed in the 50m backstroke where he won a silver, a feat he matched later in the 100m freestyle.  He also took the bronze in the 50m butterfly.

On Sunday the focus moved to Southport where Callum was joined by five of the girls.  A high quality field, well supported by the local squads, attended the event and the spot prizes awarded to Aimee Dean, Lyra Holmes and Lauren Carey sweetened it for the Ashton girls.

In the pool Aimee Carey topped the charts for the most amount of personal best swims, she managed five over the day. Lauren, her sister, managed two, as did Callum Shaw.  Lyra Holmes and Sophie Kershaw managed one personal best each.  The team won four bronze medals between them.  Lyra getting the ball rolling in the 50m freestyle followed by Callum in the 100m breaststroke.  Then Sophie and Lauren managed to win their first championship medals in the girls 100m and 50m breaststroke respectively.

All in all a busy and successful couple of days; every swimmer came out of the weekend with something: medals, personal best times or spot prizes.  They continue to represent the club brilliantly on a wider stage throughout the North West.
