The Manchester Football Association Grassroots Awards is taking place at The Midland Hotel on Friday, July 13.

Following last year’s success, the event will once again showcase the achievements and contributions of volunteers from within grassroots football across the region.

There are a number of awards up for grabs at this year’s event, including Club of the Year; League of the Year; Volunteer of the Year; Coach of the Year; and more.

Tameside and Oldham will be heavily represented at the event, with Avro FC, Ashton United and Denton Cricket Club’s football team all nominated in the ‘Male Team of the Year’ category.

Droylsden Juniors Girls’ Under 12s football team have also been nominated in the ‘Female Team of the Year’ category, while Chadderton Park Sports Club is in the running to win the Disability Team of the Year.

AFC Oldham has been shortlisted in the ‘Best Use of Social Media’ category.

Last year’s guest speaker was Premier League referee Chris Kavanagh, who came to prominence last season and officiated the FA Trophy Final between Brackley Town and Bromley at Wembley Stadium.

Dom Doyle FC, a team created following the tragic loss of the 21-year-old in 2015, won the Male Team of the Year Award last November, while Droylsden Juniors’ Dennis Crompton and Jimmy Jacob won the Unsung Hero Award and Coach of the Year Award respectively.
