The Manchester Grassroots Awards is taking place at The Midland Hotel on Friday, July 13.

Following last year’s ceremony, in which the boroughs of Oldham and Tameside were heavily represented, a number of clubs and individuals from the same areas have been shortlisted in numerous categories at this year’s event.

Reporter and Chronicle contributor, Geoff Garnett, has been nominated in the Lifetime Achievement category, along with AFC Oldham chairman Peter Bird.

Curzon Ashton director Donna Hamilton, who has devoted hours of her life to the club in a number of positions, has been shortlisted in the Volunteer of the Year category, alongside Ashton United secretary and groundsman, Andy Finnigan.

Donna was  instrumental in helping to organise and coordinate the juniors’ trip to Madrid last year, while Andy is regularly at Hurst Cross preparing the pitch for match day or carrying out admin work.

Meanwhile, Holly Espie, who is now a coach at Bolton Wanderers Ladies, has also been shortlisted in the Coach of the Year category. Holly joined Bolton in May but had previously guided Curzon Ashton’s Under 16s to the league title.
