A woman has died after falling off a bridge in Hyde this morning.

Just before 10.40am, police received reports that a woman had fallen from a bridge by junction three of the M67, which eyewitness reports say is the bridge on Halton Street, close to Commercial Brow.

Emergency services attended but the woman sadly died at the scene.

The M67 eastbound is currently closed towards Hattersley and motorists should avoid the area, with delays from J1 to J3. The following diversion from Highways England is in place: “Traffic is being diverted via the ‘solid diamond’ diversion symbol. From J3, take the A627 southbound to the junction with the A57. Continue on the A57 eastbound to where it merges with the M67 J4.”

Highways England say the road will reopen at around 2.30pm this afternoon.
