Tameside Council issues advice for residents as website goes offline

Tameside Council has issued a statement to help residents as it continues to experience problems with its on-line services resulting in the council’s website being taken off-line.

A spokesperson for the council said: “Our third party supplier Updata, responsible for the Council’s internet connectivity, is working around the clock to resolve the problem and get the website up and running as soon as possible.

“Council services are running as usual but the issue has meant that our online self-service functions including ‘Pay It’, ‘Report It’ and ‘Apply For It’ are currently unavailable.

“We are diverting extra people into the call centre to take your phonecalls.”

The council has issued the following advice:

  • If you need to pay for Council Tax, Business Rates, Sundry Debts including adult social care invoices, and car park fines please call the new freephone number on – 0800 085 6531.
  • Council Tax, Business Rates and Sundry Debts can also be paid by direct debit, standing order at your bank or by bank transfer, or by cash, cheque or card at a post office or payzone outlet – you can search for your local Post Office at www.royalmail.com/branch-finder or find your nearest payzone outlet at www.payzone.co.uk/consumers. To pay at the post office or payzone simply take your bill or any document detailing the barcode for the payment you wish to make. Please note that not all payzone outlets will accept card payments.
  • You can call 0161 342 2015 if you want to set up a direct debit.
  • To make a faster payment or set up a standing order you will need to quote the following:
    • Tameside MBC
    • Your Council Tax / Business Rates/Sundry Debt reference (this can be found on your bill)
    • Your name
    • Sort code: **-**-**
    • Account Number: ********
    • Account name: Tameside MBC Suspense
    • Barclays, 190 Stamford Street, Ashton-under-Lyne, OL6 7NZ
  • Residents needing to make other payments in addition to Council Tax, Business Rates and Sundry Debts – such as for planning applications and fixed penalty notices – can pay by cash, cheque or card at their local post office, or cash or cheque at Customer Services in Clarence Arcade, Stamford St, Ashton during the month of May.
  • Opening times for our customers services are as follows:
    • Monday-Wednesday: 8.30am – 5.00pm
    • Thursday: 8.30am – 4.30pm
    • Friday: 8.30am – 4.00pm
  • Please be reassured that you will not be subjected to any late payment fines or costs resulting from this issue.
  • Anyone needing to use the ‘Report It’ functions, which includes missed bin collections, blocked grids, potholes, hate crime and street lighting, and ‘Apply For It’, which includes ordering replacement bins, bulky collections and blue badges, are advised to contact our calls centre on 0161 342 8355.
  • Our bin app is unaffected so residents who have downloaded this can still use it to report missed collections, check collection dates and order bins via this method. You can download the bin app from the App Store or the Google Play Store.

The council says updates will be posted on its Facebook and Twitter pages when further information is available and apologises for any inconvenience this has caused and thank residents for their patience.
