Curzon Ashton manager John Flanagan has continued to strengthen his squad ahead of the 2018/19 season in the National League North.

Defender Max Cartwright has joined the club, having played for local rivals Ashton United last season. He has also enjoyed loan spells with Chorley and Southport during his team with League One outfit, Fleetwood Town.

Cartwright has also spent time with Stockport County, where he scored on his debut for Jim Gannon’s side.

The defender will be joined at the back alongside captain Jonno Hunt and Dan Shaw, who have become fans’ favourites at the Tameside Stadium over the past few years.

In recent weeks, Flanagan has also brought in striker Chris Sharp from Alfreton Town, along with defender Danny Morton and winger Connor Hughes from Stalybridge Celtic.

The club has also released striker Ben Wharton, as well as midfielders Luke Clark and Richie Baker.

Curzon will be competing in the National League North for a fourth consecutive season, having retained their status with two games to spare in April.
