Tameside’s largest housing association, New Charter Homes, has merged with Leigh-based Adactus Housing Group to form Jigsaw Homes Group Ltd.

The new organisation becomes one of the largest housing providers in the North West, with more than 33,000 properties throughout the area and in the East Midlands.

The new company will have an annual turnover of £194m and they say it will “combine the strength of the two former companies to help reduce homelessness and tackle the challenges of welfare reform, poverty and social exclusion.”

They say the merger will cause no immediate change in day-to-day landlord activities, although residents will now be part of the ‘Jigsaw Rewards’ programme, which involves collecting points in exchange for feedback on services and plans for the future.

The newly formed group’s Chief Executive is Hilary Roberts, formerly Adactus head, and she said: “We have come from two successful organisations with strong track records of providing quality homes, services and support, but together we will do more and do better.”

New Charter’s current Chair, Fay Selvan, becomes the Group’s new Chair with Jane Clayton, formerly Adactus Chair, becoming the new companies Vice Chair.

New Charter’s Chief Executive Ian Munro remains in the business for a period of time to help ensure a smooth transition.

New Charter was originally founded in 2000 as the new landlords to own and manage homes transferred from Tameside Council. Before the merger it controlled around 20,000 homes nationwide.
