A man suffered two fractures to the skull after he was attacked with a machete in Droylsden last night.

The 24-year-old victim was parking his car on Lyme Grove, just before 11.45pm, when three men attacked him, armed with knives and a machete.

The victim managed to escape and ran into a house on the street, where raised the alarm. The offenders, who all wore balaclavas, fled in the direction of Beech Avenue.

The man was taken to hospital where he is receiving treatment for two skull fractures and several wounds

A cordon is currently in place on Lyme Grove while investigation work is carried out.

Detective Constable Jo Lockett, of GMP’s Tameside division, said: “It is appalling that a man was attacked and left in hospital at the hands of these men.

“I want to assure people that we are treating this as an isolated incident and don’t believe there to be any wider threat to the community.

“Our investigation into this incident remains ongoing and we are currently following several lines of enquiry but would urge anyone with any information to please get in touch.”
