Ramsbottom United 3-1 Droylsden

Two penalties and a stunning free kick condemned the Bloods to a defeat at the Riverside stadium.

Lee Gaskell’s free kick in the 20th minute from the edge of the area flew into the top corner giving keeper Will Jones no chance on his league debut for the Bloods replacing the injured Ritchie Branagan.

Droylsden had a great chance to take the lead ten minutes earlier, Sefton Gonzales holding up the ball well and setting up Liam Caddick whose shot from the edge of the six yard box was well saved by Ashton who palmed the ball away.

Five minutes after the goal, Domaine Rouse burst through for the Bloods but his shot was easily saved by the keeper.

At the other end, Jones saved well low to his right to deny Jerome Wright as the home team began to create more chances.

Just before half time Greg Daniels had a great chance to make it two for the home team, his header just clearing the crossbar while a Lee Gaskell free kick was deflected behind for a corner.

Daniels had another chance to double the lead after the resumption but again he missed the target for the Rams.

Their second came on 67 minutes, Jerome Wright fouled just inside the box and Greg Daniels making no mistake from the spot.

Wright could have made it three soon after, Bloods defence losing the ball, he rounded Jones only to see his shot come back off the post.

Deep into injury time,Droylsden pulled one back, Gonzales setting up Liam Caddick who struck the ball past Ashton but almost from the re-start the home side scored again from the spot. Jones was judged to have brought down Greg Daniels and the same player scored from the spot with the last kick of the game.
