Driver in Denton crash in serious condition in hospital

Police have confirmed that the 37-year-old man who crashed his car into the Deja Brew Cafe in Denton on Friday is currently in a serious condition in hospital.

Emergency services were called to Manchester Road at around 11.40am after the driver crashed his silver Mercedes ML into the shop fronts of ‘Deja Brew’ and ‘Fellaz Barber Shop’, before hitting the nearby bus shelter and shattering the glass.

Paramedics found the driver breathing but unconscious and he was taken to Tameside Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition. Nobody else was injured in the collision.

Manchester Road was closed at the junction with Queen Street but has since reopened.

Police Sergeant Brian Orr, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We are doing all we can to support the man’s family while he receives treatment in hospital and our thoughts remain with them.

“Our enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding this collision remain ongoing and I would urge anyone that witnessed the incident to please get in touch.

“The eastbound carriageway of Manchester Road was closed at its junction with Peel Street for over four hours while investigation work was carried out and I would like to thank the public for their patience.”
