Mossley 1-4 Ossett Albion

Not for the first time this season, Mossley surrendered an early lead and fell to a 4-1 defeat to Ossett Albion at Seel Park.

Ossett have enjoyed a renaissance under former Sunderland winger Andy Welsh, who took the managerial reigns in December, and their upturn in fortune continued on Saturday with an impressive comeback against the Lilywhites who, in recent weeks, have suffered a serious dip in form and slipped down the table.

Tom Dean gave Mossley the lead from the penalty spot in the 3rd minute but Ossett equalised deep into first half injury time through Adam Priestley.

Mossley entered the game having lost their previous three games, so it came as no surprise when Ossett, who had won their previous two, took the lead shortly into the second half. Priestley grabbed his second of the afternoon in the 50th minute before former Stalybridge Celtic winger Aiden Chippendale made it 3-1 in the 87th minute.

Mossley’s afternoon was to go from bad to worse in the 90th minute when Priestley secured his hat trick to make it 4-1 to the visitors.

The result leaves Mossley in 18th spot and 11 points above the drop zone, ahead of Tuesday’s clash at playoff chasing Colne.
