Prescot Cables 3-1 Droylsden

Another very disappointing afternoon as Cables recorded back to wins over the space of seven days and continued Bloods record of not having won in 2018.

A debut for Eddie Moran in the place of injured Luke Daly, Dylan Smith returning from suspension and a first start for Levi Phillips could not stem the run of bad form.

Cables went ahead after just six minutes, Baba Conteh heading home unmarked from a free kick but could have gone ahead three minutes earlier when James Edgar found himself in space after a break down the left, forcing Branagan to save.

The home team bossed the first half, Branagan saved well from Chris Almond just past the twenty minute mark and it was twenty five minutes before the Bloods had a first real chance, Mo Ali shooting wide from the edge of the area.

However they really should have equalised just before half time as Moran beat the offside trap only to lob the ball high over the bar with keeper Barnes advancing. Two minutes later the same player saw his effort from close range deflected for a corner.

Deep into first half injury time, Cables made it two, Branagan’s clearance pumped back into the box and with the keeper out of position, Almond had the easiest of chance with the open goal at his mercy.

Two down at half time and within two minutes of the restart it was three, another error at the back, Dylan Smith hesitating and Edgar nipping in to beat Branagan.

Bloods swapped Phillips for Dom Smith soon after. Domaine Rouse went close to getting a goal back, Barnes tipping his effort over for a corner but in truth the Bloods created little in the second half and Cables looked the most likely to get a fourth before Liam Caddick scored a consolation deep into second half injury time.
