In August 2017, Warwick Francis passed away. He was a teacher at Canon Burrows CE, Ashton and ran many successful teams in his 39 year career.

To mark his memory and life-long commitment to schools’ football, Tameside Schools’ FA unanimously agreed at a recent executive meeting, to dedicate one of its trophies as the ‘Warwick Francis Memorial Trophy’, which will be an annual tournament played in summer, and the winning school will represent Tameside in the English Schools’ FA DANONE Nations 7-a-side Cup, the only national competition for primary schools.

Secretary, Donal Townson presented the trophy to member of staff, Mr. Ben Richardson at a recent year 3/4 festival.

When Canon Burrows informed Warwick’s family, his son, Rick, said, ” My dad would have been chuffed to bits with this in his memory. Thank-you.”
