Tintwistle Athletic 1st team hosted Atherton Town this weekend in the quarter final of the Murray Trophy. From the off it was a scrappy affair with very little quality football on show on a heavy west drive pitch.

Tintwistle found the breakthrough in the latter stages of the first half when a teasing cross was nodded home at the back post by Ant Rodrigues. The second half offered much of the same and Tintwistle managed to battle their way to the full time whistle and take the 1-0 win.

Although Tinny never looked significantly troubled they did have their shot stopper and Man of the Match Scott McWilliam to thank for a string of fine saves to keep Atherton at bay throughout the game.

The victory means that Tintwistle will go on to play Leigh Athletic in the upcoming semi final at West Drive on Saturday, March 10 with a  2pm kick off.

Meanwhile Tintwistle Athletic reserves were unlucky to lose 1-0 away at Atherton Town Reserves.
