Tameside enjoyed an incredibly successful night at the Greater Manchester Business Awards, as no less than four of the borough’s businesses took home a prize.

The glamorous event, held at the Radisson Blu Edwardian Manchester Hotel on February 9th, saw the best of the businesses within the ten boroughs come together to celebrate the fantastic achievements that their companies and staff have managed to achieve.

One of the big winners on the night was Matthews Environmental Solution. The Hyde business, with links to Greater Manchester dating back to 1966, was named Business of the Year (Organisations 10-50 employees).

“We had a thoroughly great night at the awards,” said Elliott Jones, Business Development Manager at Matthews. “It was great to see the diversity and success of Greater Manchester Business, particularly in the face of the dreaded Brexit!

“Winning the Medium Business of the Year Award is a great achievement for the company, made possible only thanks to the hard work, skill and commitment of our small but dedicated team. We have operated within the region for a great many years and are proud to continue on Manchester’s reputation for engineering excellence.”

Matthews weren’t the only winners from Hyde on Friday. Involvement Packaging Ltd, or ‘Invopak’, (pictured top) who were well represented at the ceremony, received a Customer Service Excellence Award (Organisations of over 50 employees).

The award caps of an incredible twelve months for the business, which was named Large Business of the Year at the Pride of Tameside. Invopak have also won a Feefo Trusted Service Award, an E3 Customer Service Award and an Employee Engagement, in an incredibly successful year.

Arjen Cooper-Rolfe, CEO at Invopak said: “We’re thrilled to have received this recognition from the Greater Manchester Business community for Excellence in Customer Service. This is the fourth Business Award we’ve won over the past twelve months and proves that we’re doing the right things and making a difference to our customers and their businesses.”

Another local business rewarded for their impeccable customer service was Stalybridge vintage furniture store, Florence & Amelia’s. The independent shop, owned by Nicola Buckley, won the Customer Service Excellence Award (Organisations of under 10 employees). Nicola revealed she’s already been congratulated by her customers!

It was a good night and a bit of a late one,” she said. “The food was lovely and it was a nice atmosphere. It was also great to hear from the other businesses.

“I was absolutely thrilled when it was announced. It was surprising, I didn’t expect to win, but I was really chuffed.

“We’ve got to keep it up now! The award will take pride of place on the shop counter and I’ve already had some lovely customers bring in some prosecco as a congratulations. “

Repeating his success was Wayne Coyle, owner of Tropical Palms salon and Tropical Palms Education in Droylsden. Wayne won a Special Recognition Award for Entrepreneur of the Year, to add to his Excellence Award from last year.

“It was a great night, we really enjoyed it,” Wayne said. “It’s great to see Tameside businesses duplicating their local success on a bigger stage.

“I was pretty shocked to win an award; I wasn’t expecting it because the competition was so fierce. I was just proud that my business and training school were named alongside some seriously big companies, so it was really flattering.

“There are lots of people to thank; my wife Laura, all the staff and trainees at the salon, our brilliant local customers, other local business executives who have helped me and provided advice, Tameside Council, Tameside College and the Manchester College.”

The chosen charity partner for the Greater Manchester Business Awards 2018 is Forever Manchester, a locally based charity that helps people do extraordinary things together. Raffle tickets were provided on the night and will be entered into a prize draw on Friday March 9th, with the main prize being a three-night stay in Barcelona with Althams Travel.
