Mossley 2-0 Colwyn Bay

After a poor run of results Mossley returned to winning ways on Saturday with a determined and much more confident performance when beating Colwyn Bay 2-0 at Seel Park.

The Lilywhites included two new signings. Ex Rochdale keeper Jonathan Diba Musangu and former Oldham and Shrewsbury central defender Danny Hall. Both enjoyed strong debuts.

In an even first half there were few chances. Best of them fell firstly to Bay’s Kyle Jacobs who saw his effort saved by Diba Musangu then to Mossley’s Liam Ellis who saw his goal-bound effort cleared off the line.

The Lilywhites took the lead on 25 minutes. Good link up play between Ellis and Mason Duffy on the right saw the latter’s clipped cross flicked on by Jack Tuohy for Mike Fish to pounce at the far post.

Ellis had a chance to double the lead soon after but was denied by Matt Cooper when through one-on-one.

The second half saw the visitors dominate possession possibly 70-30 but they looked increasingly unlikely to score. Mossley’s watertight defence meant that Bay couldn’t get a clear site at goal despite the probing of Elliot Rokka and the livewire Astley Mulholland.

As the welsh side ran out of ideas Mossley forged onto the attack. Adam Latham had an almost immediate impact when he replaced goalscorer Fish on the hour mark as he skipped merrily past two defenders before seeing his effort saved by Cooper.

The killer second goal came in the 79th minute. Mo Ali intercepted a Colwyn Bay pass and Latham opened the defence with a great through ball that sent Mason Duffy scampering clear to slot past the advancing Cooper.

Mossley might have had a third when Ellis burst through but he was forced wide when rounding the keeper and couldn’t quite squeeze the ball in from a tight angle.

Last save of the day was reserved for Diba Musangu who confidently turned away Elliot Rokka’s shot to retain the clean sheet. That in itself was enough after recent leaks. However, the doggedly determined defending and speedy counter attacking play served Mossley well with the Lilywhites fully deserving of maximum points.
