Stalybridge Celtic 1-1 Sutton Coldfield

Attendance – 310

Celtic had to settle for a share of the spoils on Saturday afternoon in this battle at the bottom.

In truth a fairly drab affair doesn’t do much except spare Celtic the embarrassment of being bottom of the table, at least for now.  In a game of few chances Connor Hughes gave Celtic the lead just past the half hour mark, when he turned in a loose ball following a corner.

As the pitch began to cut up it became harder for either side to get any real flow going. Richards hit a curling effort that was very well saved by Walton in the Celtic goal. The lively Connor Hughes was having a good game and he had the beating of his marker all afternoon. After the umpteenth time of doing so he hit a hard shot to the far post only to see it saved by the finger tips of Brown. Hughes was instrumental again as he delivered a perfect cross to the head Wolfenden who saw his header crash off the post.

Celtic would rue these missed chances on 76 minutes when Morton was adjudged to have up ended Richards in the box. A penalty was given, a soft one at that. Richards stepped up and buried his effort although Walton was inches away from a save.

The game petered out as neither side could force a winner. With only one relegation slot this season, it is to be seen whether this will prove a good point or two points dropped as Celtic battle to secure their safety.
