Hyde United returned to winning ways in the Evo-Stik First Division North with a 2-0 victory at Kendal Town.

The Tigers entered the game on the back of a 3-0 defeat at South Shields on Saturday – the club’s second reverse all season – and were in no mood to continue the trend.

It was therefore encouraging when Luke Porritt opened the scoring in the sixth minute before Tom Pratt wrapped things up with four minutes left. In the process, the striker registered his 12th goal of the campaign.

The result leaves Darren Kelly’s side in fourth spot and just three points below leaders South Shields.

Elsewhere, Mossley were knocked out of the Integro League Cup after a 3-0 home defeat to Ramsbottom United.

After taking the lead through Eddie Moran in the 25th minute, the Rams were made to wait until the dying stages to put the game to bed.

Two goals inside a minute from Chris Rushworth and Jerome Wright secured the Rams a place in the quarter-final stage.

The result means Mossley have conceded 13 goals in their previous three games.
