Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was stabbed in Gorton yesterday afternoon.

The 40-year-old victim was attacked by a group of men on Matthews Street in West Gorton at around 4.20pm. He suffered multiple stab wounds, thought to be in the leg, and was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary, where he remains in a stable condition.

It’s thought the victim may have been involved in an earlier dispute with a man over the sale of a vehicle. Officers want to hear from anyone who may have information which could help their enquiries to get in touch.

Detective Chief Inspector Liam Boden from GMP’s City of Manchester Team said: “This was an extremely violent assault, where the victim received multiple stab wounds. He is currently in a stable condition in hospital, but he has a long way to go and my thoughts are with him.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have seen a group of men in the area around the time of the assault to get in touch.

“Also, anyone who may have information about a dispute over the sale of a vehicle, is also asked to get in touch.

“We will do all that we can to find those responsible and get the victim and his family the answers they deserve.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 6075 alternatively call 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
