Oldham Athletic have confirmed the departure of five players.

Jack Ruddy, Ben Wilson, Eoin Doyle, Jack Byrne and Kean Bryan have all returned following the completion of their loan spells.

Having signed on-loan from Preston in August, Doyle quickly became a fan favourite at the club, scoring 12 goals in 17 appearances.

Although the striker’s loan-deal came to an end on January 1, Doyle was unable to play in Latics’ festive fixtures due to illness.

Meanwhile, Bryan, who returns to parent club Manchester City, scored two goals in 21 appearances for the club. His latest goal came in the 2-1 defeat to Fleetwood Town on Boxing Day.

Byrne, who scored four goals in 22 appearances, returns to parent club Wigan Athletic. Manager Richie Wellens aimed some hard-hitting comments at the 21-year-old last week. Of his recent performances, he said:

“I’ve given Jack Byrne a free role for a number of games but I’ve been disappointed with Jack. He looks good on the ball but his end product is no assists. He got two goals against Northampton and a goal at Crewe, but that’s a long time since he’s scored a goal.

“For the position and the amount of freedom I give him in a game, I would expect more. That deal is down to whether we want to do it or not, so we’ll make a decision. Jack is speaking to a couple of other clubs anyway, which is his right to do.”

Goalkeepers Jack Ruddy and Ben Wilson have returned to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Cardiff City respectively.
