Police are appealing for information after shots were fired at a house in Hattersley in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The shots were heard at about 1.15am this morning (Sunday) with officers being called to reports of shots heard on Torrington Drive.

Police attended and discovered a firearm had been discharged at the front door of a house.

Damage was caused to the door as well as inside the property but luckily no one was injured.

Straight after the shots were fired, a person wearing dark clothing was seen running by Silverton Close towards Cheriton Close.

Detective Inspector Kenny Blain said: “Thankfully no one was hurt but this incident could have ended with devastating consequences and we must find the person responsible.

“Currently we are treating it as an isolated incident and we have had no other reports of similar offences.

“That being said, neighbours and the wider community will understandably be concerned and there will be extra police officers patrolling the area.

“These shots were fired in the early hours of the morning and it is unlikely many people were around at the time to witnesses it. However, if you heard anything or saw anything suspicious then please call us.

“We are particularly keen to speak to the man witnessed running in the area. It might be that this person is completely innocent and if that is the case then I would urge them to come forward so we can rule them out of enquiries.”

Anyone with any information should call Ashton-Under-Lyne CID on 0161 856 9262.
