Transport for Greater Manchester and Tameside are issuing a warning for all travellers expecting to use public transport over this years Christmas and New Year period.

It is understood that there will be several changes to the transport service on several crucial days over the latter stages of 2017, with buses, trains and trams all undergoing changes to their timetables.

Transport for Greater Manchester have issued a ‘Christmas Services’ travel advice page, which is available on the Transport for Greater Manchester website, for all public transport goers to follow in preparation for the festive season.

Over this busy period, TFGM have been working closely with the TravelSafe Partnership, as well as the Greater Manchester Police, in aid to keep people safe.

As well as that, there will be more officers in action on the transport networks, especially on ‘Mad Friday’ – where clubs and bars within Manchester City Centre are expected to be extremely busy.

Stephen Rhodes, Customer Director for Transport for Greater Manchester said: “We want everyone to make the most of the festive period, and the travel guide shows travellers what their options are as services will┬áchange over the holidays.

“It’s always good to plan ahead when travelling and I would urge anyone who’s making a trip over Christmas to start their journey on our website.

“Don’t get stranded, know your last service times as these will be bigger than usual.”

Public Transport for Greater Manchester are promoting the idea of investing in modern transport interchanges and smarter travel information. Making it easier and safer for commuters to travel around.

The idea of a more ‘sustainable’ way of travelling is being introduced also, and TFGM are planning to put this idea into action over this Christmas and New Year.
