Evita, the iconic and critically acclaimed powerful musical is on tour and played at The Palace Theatre Manchester.

Lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd-Webber it was directed by Bob Tomson and Bill Kenwright and was stately sensational.

The musical first began as a Rock Opera concert album in 1976 with Julie Covington and Barbara Dickson and the stage production followed in 1978 with Elaine Paige and David Essex.

Based on the life of Argentina’s glamorous Eva Peron starring one of musical theatre’s most outstanding leading performers Madalena Alberto as Evita. The production is touring the UK and was a success in the West End. Alberto was vocally magnificent, majestic and graceful with charismatic presence that was breath-taking.

The emotional performance featured the fabulous musical numbers: Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, Oh What A Circus, On This Night of a Thousand Stars, You Must Love Me and Another Suitcase in Another Hall.

This monumental musical is a rags to riches story when actress Eva Duarte becomes the wife of former Argentine dictator Juan Peron.

Evita follows Eva’s journey from humble beginnings to power, wealth and to eventually win the hearts of her people until her tragic demise in 1952. Eva’s iconic status became ‘the spiritual leader of the nation’ by the Argentine people and the production captured the historical and political unrest of the troubled times in Argentina.

Narrator Che (Gian Marco Schiaretti) was outstanding and compelling with a powerful presence that captivated the audience. Peron (Jeremy Secomb) and Oscar Balmaseda (Magaldi) were also excellent in their roles.

The cast received a standing ovation which was well deserved because this musical is quintessentially timeless, attracting audiences wherever it plays. Evita has won more than 20 major awards, including the Oscar winning film adaptation starring Madonna and Antonio Banderas.
