Motorcyclist dies after Belle Vue crash

A motorcyclist has died after a crash in Belle Vue this morning.

Just after 7am, police were called to Hyde Road, close to the junction of Redgate Lane, to reports of a collision between a Peugeot 208 and a Suzuki motorbike.

Emergency services attempted to treat the motorcyclist at the scene but he was sadly pronounced dead upon arrival at hospital. The Peugeot driver was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

PC Paul Hailwood of GMP’s Serious Collision Unit said: “I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the family of the man who has died this morning; my thoughts are with them at this terrible time.

“We are currently working at the scene to establish exactly what has happened and I would ask that anybody who witnessed the collision, or has dash cam footage, please contact the police.”

The incident is the second fatal crash involving a motorcyclist at the junction of Hyde Road and Redgate Lane in just over a year. In September 2016, a motorcyclist in his 50s was killed after a colliding with a taxi in a similar spot.
