Hyde United secured an important 3-1 victory over Scarborough Athletic to maintain their assault on the title this season.

It was the third time that Darren Kelly’s side have met the Seagulls this season, having opened their campaign with a goalless stalemate on the east coast before claiming a 2-0 victory in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round to set up a tie against MK Dons in November.

The festive fixture attracted a healthy crowd of 638 to Ewen Fields, and those who braved the cold weather were treated to some fantastic football.

Big Khamsuk gave the Tigers the lead in the 11th minute before Matt Beadle doubled the lead from the penalty spot just three minutes later. The striker, who has been in fine form this season, was sent off shortly after following a second yellow card.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, Hyde continued to pressure and their efforts paid off with a third in the 72nd minute. Dominic Marie netted from close range before Scarborough pulled a goal back with six minutes left through Nathan Curtis.
