Heyside 3-3 AFC Monton

Heyside returned to league action after a week break and shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw with relegation threatened AFC Monton on Saturday.

Monton entered the game on the back of three heavy defeats to Stockport Georgians, Wythenshawe Amateurs and Royton Town, where they conceded 27 goals and scored just one in the process.

It therefore came as a huge surprise to everyone in attendance when they forced a spirited comeback to come from 3-1 down to take a share of the points.

Barrey Massey, Tyler Cooke and Theo Barr scored the all-important goals which takes the club to within one point of safety.

Following the game, Heyside manager Matthew Wheelton said his side paid the price for profligacy in front of goal. Speaking to Reporter Sport, he said: “We were 3-1 up and surrendered the lead. We spawned some very good chances and ultimately paid the price.”

Heyside will be hoping to put the disappointment of last weekend behind them when they travel to third place East Manchester on Saturday.

Matthew is expecting a tough tie against the reigning Manchester Challenge Trophy champions. He said: “Saturday will be a tough encounter against a very good side.

“We drew at our place earlier in the season, so I’m expecting a close one.”

The sides did indeed meet earlier in the season, and the points were shared in a 2-2 draw. Adam Dale and Josh Briddon registered for Heyside, while Matthew Roberts and Sam Jones notched for East Manchester.

East Manchester, who have booked their place in the Manchester Challenge Trophy Final once again this season, enter the game on the back of a 4-3 victory over Bolton County last weekend.

Liam Turner and Darren Green grabbed two goals apiece to end a two game losing run.
