Evo-Stik Premier Division

Sutton Coldfield Town 2-0 Stalybridge Celtic

Celtic fell to a dark defeat in the midlands on Saturday. A result that leaves them only one point off the foot of the table.

The first half was everything you would expect from the bottom two sides in the division, with chances few and far between. Half chances were the best either side could muster up. It was in the second half that the game kicked into gear. Unfortunately for the visitors it was the home side that woke up and punished Celtic. On 52 minutes Singh got on the end of a long ball over the Celtic defence, the striker then curled a sweet effort into the bottom corner for a smartly taken goal.

Celtic shuffled their pack and brought on Bailey-Jones and Wilkinson to try and spark some creativity. Bailey-Jones hit the side netting with an effort. Just past the hour mark and the game was settled. A punt into the box from a set piece was not cleared properly by Celtic before the ball finally found Waters who fired home.

Jordan Chappell had two half chances to get Celtic back into the game. One goal bound effort blocked on route whilst seeing his other attempt turned around the post by a desperate bit of defending. It’s a worrying result for Celtic, and the Christmas period could prove to be make or break at Bower Fold.
