Pride of Tameside Business Award Winners 2017

The Pride of Tameside Business Awards 2017 were back to showcase and reward the very best businesses across a whole range of sectors in the borough on Friday night.

Winners in 20 categories were chosen plus a number of highly commended awards were presented during a glittering ceremony held at Dukinfield Town Hall and attended by more than 250 members of the business community.

The Tameside Reporter and Tameside Radio were there to speak to the winners – and you can tune into Tameside Radio 103.6FM for a special business hour on Monday with Jan Lord and Nigel Skinner who will be spotlighting this year’s awards.

Louise Marshall, Chair of the Pride of Tameside Business Awards said the event recognised the outstanding work of businesses from the borough and inspirational individuals from across Tameside.

She thanked sponsors Bromleys Solicitors, Culimeta Saveguard, Brother UK, Business Growth Hub, New Charter and Tameside College for helping make the event a reality and the 20 plus judges from various business backgrounds who had the unenviable task of shortlisting and then choosing the winners.

Entry quality was high this year she added, demonstrating the business quality the region has to offer.

The event also helped raise awareness and funds for this year’s chosen charity, the Anthony Seddon Fund, which helps those with mental illnesses and is based in Ashton – the raffle on the evening realising more than £1,000 for the cause alone.

STANDING OVATION: Patricia Harrison accepts the award for her charity, Gift of a Wedding.

Among the winners named on the night was Patricia Harrison, founder and chair of local charity Gift of a Wedding, who herself gave an emotional speech on receiving her award after being named Social Enterprise Business of the Year – her speech receiving a standing ovation.

Host Andy Crane also added that learning about the charity and of its work was truly inspirational.

Patricia explained to a hushed audience that the charity provides weddings for those who are terminally ill and can provide weddings absolutely free of charge within days, weeks or months depending on the need.

The charity operates across the country but Patricia said they had provided weddings locally and wanted to spread the word of the service the charity provides.

“We’ve been operating for six years and I’ve never put us forward for an award before so this is the first time we’ve won,” said a delighted Patricia.

If you would like to find out more about the charity you can call (0161) 338 8000 or find Gift of a Wedding on twitter or Facebook.
