A man has been left needing plastic surgery after being attacked by a group of youths in a Tameside park.

The victim, a 26-year-old man, had been in Hyde park with a friend playing bowls on the bowling green when they were approached by four youths who verbally abused them.

The two men then attempted to leave the park in their car but as they drove towards the exit, they surrounded by a large group of youths, including the four who previously approached them.

One offender – who is described as approximately 5ft 10ins tall, white, wearing a grey and black Adidas hooded top with stripes down the arm and dark jogging bottoms – hit the car with a wooden stick.

A second offender – who is described as approximately 6ft tall, of slim build, white with brown hair and approximately 17 to 18 years old, wearing a light grey tracksuit with black trainers – then hit the victim over the head with a large stick.

The victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for his head injuries which required plastic surgery.

The attack happened at around 5pm on Thursday, November 2, at the park on Lodge Lane, Hyde.

Detective Constable Wayne Marshall, of GMP’s Tameside borough, said: “This was a shocking attack on two innocent men who were minding their own business and enjoying their afternoon in the park.

“The men sensed trouble when they were first approached and tried to leave but the group were determined to harm them in some way and I am appalled by their behaviour.

“A young man required serious surgery as a result of someone’s despicable actions and we are determined to find the youths responsible so that we can ensure they are prosecuted.”
