A man from Denton has been given a six month suspended jail sentence for sexually touching a woman when she wasn’t consenting.

John Ashby, of Windsor Road, had denied two offences relating to the same charge.

Tameside Magistrates Court heard that the incidents happened in Oldham on June 15 and June 29 this year.

Following a trial, the court found the 58-year-old guilty of both offences and gave him a six month jail sentence, suspended for 12 months.

He was ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work, plus issued with a restraining order and must sign the sex offenders’ register for seven years.

Ashby must also pay £300 in court costs and a £115 victim surcharge.
